What Would You Do If You Were at the Controls of Cactus Flight 1549, “The Miracle On The Hudson”?

At Aircraft Simulator Training, we are having way too much fun. We have been exploring more options with our new Six Degree of Freedom Simulator, and now have a training module called “The Miracle on the Hudson” Flight Experience.

We have actually re-created the US Airways (Cactus) Flight 1549, “Miracle on the Hudson” loss of both engines scenario. This is the exact flight profile that Captain Sully flew when he splashed down in the Hudson River and saved the lives of 153 people onboard after taking off from LaGuardia airport on January 15, 2009.

The simulated profile that students fly takes place on the blustery cold afternoon of January 15, 2009, from lift off at La Guardia airport at 3:24:56 to splash down on a southerly heading, at 130 knots (150 miles per hour) in the Hudson, six minutes later at 3:31.

The “Miracle on the Hudson” training module started out as an idea with our instructors saying, “Let’s see what it looks like.”  It is now a training tool for pilots and a fun experience for non-pilots. We use one of Aircraft Simulator Training’s jet simulators and plug in all the data; the weather, the altitude, the winds, the flock of geese, the harrowing moments of indecision that Sully and his co-pilot Jeff Skiles turned into the first ever successful water ditching.

We work with a student to see what they would do if they found themselves in the same situation. The difference with this and the actual landing in the Hudson is that you are safe, warm, having fun and, unlike Cactus 1549 hurtling earthward, we can pause the simulator for discussion.

Everyone loves it! It puts them in a situation that they otherwise would never have the opportunity to experience. But what the “Miracle on the Hudson” scenario is really doing is teaching pilots and non-pilots decision-making skills, clear thinking, situational awareness and what slow flight and a complete loss of engine power looks and feels like.

If you decide to fly with us for the experience of a lifetime, what can you expect? Well, you’ll just have to give us a call and schedule your sim ride to find out!

When you show up at the simulator, you will get a full pre-flight briefing. Then we put you in the sim and you’ll go to work with some of the most experienced pilots/flight instructors around.  Check out our team here..

The question is: can you put it down in the Hudson in one piece like Sully did?

Call our 24/7 number – 707-528-IFLY (4359) – and tell them you want to sign up for the “Miracle on the Hudson” flight.  Or fill out our contact form.

The bragging rights alone are worth the experience!

What our students are saying about the “Miracle On The Hudson” Training Module…..

Love the new machine. We flew the “Miracle on the Hudson” and I swear once we ditched the jet, it started rocking gently like a boat. Very realistic….and FUN!”
