Simulators are great time builders at a reduced cost. The FAA allows you 50 hours of simulator time to be applied to your commercial license and 25 hours can be applied towards your ATP. Further, you can do this in instrument conditions while you sharpen you instrument scan skills and procedures.
If you’re planning to follow the airline route the sim time you are building for a commercial rating can be done in several multi engine aircraft including turboprops. Our sims mimic these aircraft in design of the panel and in the way they operate.
But the bottom line is not only the time building but the cost. The simulator is less expensive to operate then an aircraft. The time building can be done much quicker than in an airplane and can be done when the weather keeps you from flying in the aircraft.
